Dr. Alejandro Cabrera M.
is a General Surgeon, focused on the specialty of Phlebology (vein diseases) since 1996.
He received his MD degree from the University of Chile, Valparaiso (1987). He completed his Surgical Residence Program and Master of Surgery, at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Santiago (1988 – 1991). He was Fellow in Health Organization, Boston University, United States (1994) and Fellow in Minimally Invasive Ambulatory Surgery at Veintec Clinic, San Antonio, Texas, United States (2003).

Major milestones
In 1997, he performed the first SEPS, Sub-facial endoscopic perforator surgery, to treat insufficient communicating veins and venous ulcers, in Chile.
In 2003, he performed the first Endo Venous Laser treatment, for large varicose veins in Chile, under Ultrasonographic Guidance and Tumescent Local Anesthesia, which replaced traditional surgery, marking a new era in the treatment of this disease in his country.
In 2005 he became a Full Member of the Society of Surgeons of Chile with the Research Trial, "Varicose veins, 1000 cases treated with preservation of the saphenous vein".
In 2008 he received his Medal of Honor as an International Member of the European Venous Forum in Warsaw, Poland.
In 2010 he was named a Member of the Faculty of the American College of Phlebology, in the United States, being the only Chilean to have obtained this distinction.
In 2013, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Veintec Franchise in Chile, it expands throughout the country, founding branches up North and down South of Chile.
In 2015, he obtained the Prochile Award with his "Outpatient Medical Services Export Project".
He has been a member of several scientific societies, among which are: The Society of Surgeons of Chile, The Chilean Society of Ultrasonography, The American College of Phlebology, The European Venous Forum and the French Society of Phlebology.
Author of the Book "Varicose Veins, A Silent Disease" published in 2013 and author of the Phlebology chapter of Dr. Manuel Fontbote's Book about Aesthetic Dermatology.
Dr. Cabrera has received and contributed to the training of other Chilean doctors in this specialty and also foreign doctors from Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Colombia and has been a visiting professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Finis Terrae University.
He is currently the Medical Director and developer of the Veintec’s Network of Varicose Veins Clinics in Chile and President of The International Institute of Vein technology in Miami, USA.
As of December 2021, Dr. Cabrera has performed more than 6,000 interventions for varicose veins, being the pioneer and most experienced surgeon in Chile, in minimally invasive procedures for varicose veins, such as Endolaser and Ambulatory Phlebectomy.
